Take a step back.

Breathe.

Take time.

Look at the bigger picture.

Put yourself in the other’s shoes.

Formulate a considered response, not a reaction.

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom”

Viktor E. Frankl, 1946

How can Considered Communication help?

Anger and stress are having profound adverse effects on businesses in the United Kingdom. The impact of chronic stress on employees is leading to decreased productivity, increased absenteeism, and higher turnover rates. When individuals experience stress and anger, it affects their ability to focus, make sound decisions, and collaborate effectively with colleagues and customers.

According to CIPD research, 53% of people who have been victims of bullying have not reported the latest incident

Managing Emotions in the Workplace

Employees experience a range of emotions throughout each day. We work by identifying the core feelings of Fear, Anger, Shame, Hurt, Happy, Powerful, Peaceful, Sad, which underpin our emotions. We define emotions as ‘energy in motion’. These emotions need to be managed to allow the flourishing of a happy and productive workplace where communication is clear and considered and causes no harm to the other and self.

Stress and anger contribute to a toxic work environment, leading to increased conflict, reduced employee morale, and higher levels of employee and customer dissatisfaction. Furthermore, the physical and mental health implications of stress and anger lead to increased healthcare costs for businesses.

What is the impact of Anger and Stress in the Workplace?

Wellness Stress
  • A survey conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that work-related stress, including factors such as anger, accounted for 49% of all working days lost due to ill health in the UK in 2022/23. 3
  • A report by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that stress continues to be one of the main causes of short and long-term absence. Overall, 76% of respondents report some stress-related absence in their organisation over the last year (6% don’t know), although this rises to 92% of organisations with more than 250 employees. 4
  • 18 million work days are lost each work year in the UK to mental health issues, predominantly stress. 5
  • Stress costs the UK economy 28 billion pounds a year. 6
